News & Observer, Charlotte Observer Editorial Board Endorse Josh Stein For Governor, Citing “Strong Voice” & Record Fighting For NC
This past weekend, the Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer Editorial Board announced its endorsement of Josh Stein to be the Democratic nominee for North Carolina’s governor.
Citing his record fighting and delivering for North Carolinians as Attorney General, the editorial board wrote that “Stein has been a strong voice and active attorney general on voting rights, reproductive rights, the opioid epidemic and a number of consumer issues.” They also praised his work taking on polluters poisoning drinking water and his efforts to effectively tackle “an inexcusable backlog of rape kits in North Carolina.”
In highlighting their support of Stein, the authors also uplifted the stakes of the 2024 election, writing that it includes Mark Robinson, “who is more virulently extreme than any statewide candidate in memory” and a “proud election denier with a history of bigoted and outlandish remarks.” As the Editorial Board makes clear, this election is an “opportunity for voters to determine what direction they want for their state” and choose candidates with “principled leadership and public integrity.”
The editorial board joins endorsements by Governor Roy Cooper, the NCAE, the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, Let America Vote / End Citizens United, North Carolina AFL-CIO, the Durham Committee for the Affairs of Black People, the Simkins PAC, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Black Political Caucus, the Raleigh-Wake Citizens Association, the Wake County Voter Education Coalition, YDNC, Reproductive Freedom For All, Planned Parenthood, and nearly 300 former and current elected officials and clergy.
