“The Person For The Moment”: Simkins PAC Endorses Josh Stein

The Dr. George C Simkins Jr. Memorial Political Action Committee has announced it is endorsing Attorney General Josh Stein for Governor. The Simkins PAC, Greensboro’s preeminent Black political action group, was founded in the early 1960s to advocate for equal rights and justice in their community. It is named after Dr. George Simkins, whose lawsuit against Moses Cone hospital eventually led to the integration of public hospitals.

“Attorney General Stein’s record of fighting and delivering for North Carolinians – from protecting consumers from scams and frauds to standing up for voting rights – was impressive,” said Steve Bowden, chair of the Simkins PAC. “Our members were also compelled by his life story and how it has shaped his commitment to justice. In a critical election year, Josh Stein is the person for the moment.”

“The Simkins PAC has been a powerful voice for change in Greensboro for decades,” said Attorney General and candidate for governor Josh Stein. “Their advocacy for voter registration, economic justice, and safe communities has pushed the city forward. I am honored by their endorsement and look forward to moving our state closer to its promise for every North Carolinian.”

The Simkins PAC joins Governor Roy Cooper, North Carolina AFL-CIO, NCAE, League of Conservation Voters, Let America Vote / End Citizens United, the Durham Committee for the Affairs of Black People, Reproductive Freedom For All, Planned Parenthood, and nearly 300 former and current elected officials and clergy in supporting Josh Stein’s vision for a safer and stronger North Carolina.
