News & Observer, Charlotte Observer Editorial Board Endorse Josh Stein For Governor, Citing “Temperament, Qualifications and Vision”
“Stein fights for what is right, even when it’s not easy.”
Yesterday, the Charlotte Observer and the News & Observer Editorial Board announced its endorsement of Josh Stein to be North Carolina’s next Governor.
The Observer writes that Stein “has served this state capably for eight years as attorney general and for years before that as a state senator,” citing his advocacy on “critical issues like voting rights and the opioid epidemic.” They write, “Stein fights for what is right, even when it’s not easy — and he has shown himself to be a leader who lifts up the vulnerable instead of picking on them.”
Meanwhile, they write, “everything we have learned about Robinson has been a lesson in why he cannot and should not be our next governor.” While Stein “would be a governor for all of North Carolina,” the Observer writes with concern about how Robinson would leave Black, Jewish, gay, and female North Carolinians behind. In their words, “There’s little evidence we can trust that Robinson will be a good ambassador for North Carolina, let alone a steady leader in a tragedy.”
Last month, the campaign also rolled out endorsements from Republicans across the state who are putting politics aside to stand with Josh for a safer, stronger North Carolina. The coalition, which launched with more than 50 North Carolinians, also includes former State Senators Richard Stevens and Jim Davis and former State Representatives Chuck Neely, Charles “Chuck” McGrady, David Guice, and Will Neumann.
