NEW: Report Shows Mark Robinson Has Shirked His Duties As Lieutenant Governor

Republican State Treasurer: “The lieutenant governor has been the most absent elected official in my 16 years in Raleigh.”

New reporting from WUNC reveals the extent to which Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson has shirked his responsibilities as an elected official, being “routinely absent” from his duties.

While Robinson has spoken of fulfilling his responsibilities as Lieutenant Governor, referring to the “herculean task” of serving on the State Board of Education and claiming to “help the legislature to push the issues that they’re trying to push,” his attendance record tells a different story.

WUNC notes that he has only presided over the Senate once in 2024, a session during which he “flubb[ed] the order of agenda items” and said to the chamber, “I’m sorry, guys, I’m a little rusty.” Similarly, he wrote of the state school board in his 2022 memoir, “I sit in North Carolina State Education Board meetings, listening to them yammer, yammer, yammer, and think every time, ‘What the hell does any of this mean?’” Yet, “[m]eeting minutes show he’s missed nearly half of the board’s sessions.” Robinson also sits on the State Board of Community Colleges, yet “has attended the board’s meetings four times” in four years.

WUNC’s reporting follows last month’s news from The Atlantic that Robinson has not attended a single Military Affairs Commission meeting, despite frequently speaking of his desire to support veterans and “honor these folks, not just with our mouths.”

“Mark Robinson is all talk and no action when it comes to serving the people of North Carolina,” said Morgan Hopkins, a spokesperson for the campaign. “This November, voters will reject his failed leadership and elect Josh Stein, a true public servant who actually does his job and gets things done for North Carolinians.”
