The Daily Reflector: Governor hopeful Stein works to rally farmer support in Greenville
- Promoting North Carolina agriculture abroad and nationwide, addressing climate change and expanding public service loan forgiveness are a few of the issues gubernatorial candidate Josh Stein said he wants to pursue for North Carolina farmers.
- “Agriculture is the No. 1 industry in North Carolina and I want to make sure our state government does everything we can to help our state’s farmers succeed,” said Stein, who currently serves as North Carolina Attorney General. “That is what ‘Farmers for North Carolina,’ is about, creating a group of farmers supporting the efforts of the campaign but also engaging with us and letting us know what are the challenges they are facing, what they need from the state to continue to thrive.”
- Agriculture reached a milestone in 2023 by having an economic impact of more than $100 billion in the state, he said. The agriculture sector employs 772,000 people. “North Carolina’s economy and people thank the farmers of North Carolina for their hard work on their behalf,” he said. “Agriculture is our backbone for a stronger state and we have to ensure it continues to flourish in North Carolina,” he said.
