Josh Stein Meets With Child Care Workers, Parents, and Advocates to Highlight Importance of Investing In Early Learning, Child Care

Last week, Attorney General and Democratic nominee for Governor Josh Stein traveled to Greensboro for a panel discussion hosted by Care in Action. During the event, he met with child care workers, parents, and advocates to emphasize his commitment to supporting parents and families by investing in North Carolina’s child care system and early childhood education.

“As a parent, I understand how important it is to be able to access quality, affordable child care – which is out of reach for far too many North Carolina parents,” said Attorney General and Democratic nominee for Governor. “As Governor, I will continue advocating for investments in child care so centers can pay their staff adequately, parents can focus on their work, and kids have a safe place to learn and grow.”

As Attorney General, Josh Stein has advocated for a stronger child care system. In 2020, he urged the Senate to provide at least $50 billion for childcare providers in the COVID stimulus bill. In June, he called on the General Assembly to address the child care funding cliff and prevent the closure of more than 1,500 childcare centers. He also proposed a Working Families Tax Cut that would reinstate the State Earned Income Tax Credit, and he supports the expansion of paid family leave to help working parents. As Governor, Stein will continue to prioritize increasing access to affordable, high-quality child care to bolster our workforce and ensure our kids are set up for success.
