Josh Stein Honors Black History Month
Today, Attorney General and candidate for Governor Josh Stein released the following statement honoring the start of Black History Month:
“Today marks the beginning of Black History Month, a time that reminds us of the leaders who have played a critical role in bringing our country closer to its promise of liberty and justice for all. That legacy is exemplified in North Carolina’s story. From the Greensboro sit-ins to the founding of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, from Simkins vs. Cone to Swann v. Mecklenburg, Black North Carolinians have paved the way for the betterment of our state and nation, and we are forever indebted to their efforts and sacrifices.
“But the work is not over – each generation must commit itself anew to our shared values of freedom, justice, and opportunity for every person. I am proud to stand for a North Carolina where we all can thrive, no matter our background. Let our history inspire us to take up the mantle of leaders past and present and fight for a state that’s safer and stronger for all of us.”
