Josh Stein for North Carolina Launches “Cold Case,” Highlighting Work To Clear Rape Kit Backlog & Put Rapists Behind Bars
Today, Josh Stein for North Carolina launched “Cold Case,” an ad highlighting Stein’s work as Attorney General to clear the rape kit backlog, bring justice to survivors, and put rapists behind bars.
In the ad, Robeson County District Attorney Matt Scott tells the story of a young teacher who was assaulted in her home. For decades, her rape kit remained untested and her case went cold. Through Attorney General Stein’s work to clear the rape kit backlog, law enforcement was able to find, arrest her attacker, and convict him. He is now serving more than 20 years in prison. With the partnership of the legislature and law enforcement, more than 100 criminals have been arrested and survivors across North Carolina are finally seeing justice.
“As Attorney General, Josh Stein has worked with Republicans and Democrats to clear the rape kit backlog and take violent criminals off of North Carolina’s streets,” said Jeff Allen, campaign manager for Josh Stein for North Carolina. “While Mark Robinson continues to spread his vision of division and violence, Josh Stein will work to build a safer, stronger North Carolina as our next Governor.”

Because of that test, law enforcement found her attacker, and he’s now doing over 20 years in prison.
