“I’d Like To Get Down To Zero Weeks”: New Audio Reveals Mark Robinson’s Plan for a Total Ban on Abortion
New reporting from NBC News reveals that this week, Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson re-confirmed his support for a total ban on abortion in North Carolina – despite his recent efforts to mislead voters about his true beliefs.
In the recording, Robinson makes clear he wants to continue pushing abortion restrictions back in the state: “Do I want to continue to lower it? You better know it. I would love to get down to six weeks. And I’d like to get down to zero weeks.”
As backlash grows across the state to his comment saying abortions happen because women are not “responsible enough to keep your skirt down,” Robinson has lied to voters about his stance on abortion – an unsurprising move given only 9 percent of voters in North Carolina agree with his plans to pass a total ban with no exceptions.
But voters won’t fall for it. He has a long and well-documented history of demeaning women and advocating for a total abortion ban:
“Mark Robinson says one thing in public and another when he thinks no one is listening,” said Morgan Hopkins, a spokeswoman for the campaign. “He can try to spin it, he can try to hide it, but he can’t skirt the truth: Mark Robinson would sign a total abortion ban in North Carolina. Mark Robinson doesn’t respect women to make their own reproductive health care decisions. Josh Stein does.”
