ICYMI: Robinson “Disingenuously” “Tries to Convince Voters He’s an Abortion Moderate,” But “Voters Shouldn’t Buy the Cynical Rebrand”
Robinson: “I haven’t changed my position, I’ve just changed…what I’m saying.”
Yesterday, The Cut reminded readers that while Mark Robinson’s new ad is “disingenuously massaging his abortion stance,” the Lieutenant Governor has “long opposed the right to choose, spoken at anti-abortion rallies, and favored extreme abortion restrictions without exceptions even in cases of rape and incest.”
The Cut points out that Robinson’s attempt to obscure his true stance on abortion underscores that reproductive freedom is “one of voters’ top issues in this election.” However, Robinson’s record on abortion cannot be denied: expressing “that he favored a total abortion ban in the state,” calling abortion “‘genocide’ and ‘murder,’” and blaming women for abortions, saying, “you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.”
Mark Robinson has not only sought to mislead voters regarding his stance on abortion – he’s also shared his own playbook for this misdirection, saying in an interview, “I haven’t changed my position, I’ve just changed…what I’m saying.” As The Cut says, “Voters shouldn’t buy the cynical rebrand.”

The Cut: Another Republican Tries to Convince Voters He’s an Abortion Moderate
- Abortion rights have remained undefeated at the ballot box ever since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and Republicans have been running away from the issue as a result, hoping voters will overlook their anti-choice records in November…Now, the latest example comes from North Carolina lieutenant governor Mark Robinson, the GOP gubernatorial candidate who previously said women terminate their pregnancies because they can’t keep their “skirt down.”
- Robinson has long opposed the right to choose, spoken at anti-abortion rallies, and favored extreme abortion restrictions without exceptions even in cases of rape and incest. (He also has a history of downplaying sexual-assault allegations.) As recently as February, Robinson implied at a campaign event that he favored a total abortion ban in the state.
- Every one of these candidates has transparently shown voters who they are through their anti-abortion records and past remarks. Whatever sleight of hand they are attempting now isn’t “softening” or “moderating” at all, and voters shouldn’t buy the cynical rebrand.
