ICYMI: Mark Robinson Continues to Duck, Dodge, and Deny His True Stance on Abortion
After previously spending millions of dollars trying to convince the people of North Carolina that he supported North Carolina’s existing 12-week abortion ban, Mark Robinson told WSOC last week that he would “absolutely” sign a law that further restricts reproductive freedom. No matter what he says, his end goal for North Carolina has been clear all along: a total ban on abortion with no exceptions.
Just two weeks ago, Robinson said the following about abortion at a private fundraiser: “Do I want to continue to lower it? You better know it. I would love to get down to six weeks. And I’d like to get down to zero weeks.” This is only the most recent example of countless times he has called for a total abortion ban.
Robinson has previously said:
- That abortions happen because women “weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down.”
- He has also said that he doesn’t support exceptions for abortion, saying, “It makes no difference to me why or how that child ended up in that womb.”
- Robinson has repeatedly explained, “I don’t believe in abortion under any circumstances.”
- And he has promised, “If I were governor with a willing legislature, we could pass a bill saying you can’t have an abortion in North Carolina for any reason.”
“It’s become crystal clear that the only thing Robinson wants more than a total abortion ban is for North Carolina voters to not know the truth about it,” said Morgan Hopkins, a spokeswoman for the campaign. “In 50 days, voters will reject his extremism once and for all.”
