ICYMI: Josh Stein Highlights Plan To Address Teacher Shortage & Better Support Educators During Teacher Appreciation Week
During Teacher Appreciation Week, Attorney General and Democratic nominee for Governor Josh Stein continued his “Real Time with Stein” tour in Durham, Hickory, and Bryson City, also stopping by Waynesville Middle School to meet with Haywood County’s Heather Smith, North Carolina’s 2024 Teacher of the Year. Throughout his stops, Stein highlighted his plans to address the teacher shortage and better support educators and public school workers.
“Addressing the alarming teacher shortage starts by recognizing the value educators and all public school workers bring to our communities,” said Attorney General and Democratic nominee for Governor Josh Stein. “This Teacher Appreciation Week is a reminder that we’ve got to come together to do better for our teachers and for our kids.”
As Governor, Josh will fight to raise teacher pay, hire more support staff like school nurses, counselors, bus drivers, and social workers, reinstate masters’ pay to retain experienced teachers, and provide a stipend for student teachers to encourage more North Carolinians to become teachers and make teacher training more affordable. Meanwhile, Mark Robinson and Republicans in the General Assembly are finding new ways to target teachers and doubling down on their efforts to defund public schools.
