Attorney General Josh Stein On Governor Cooper’s Veto Of SB747
Dangerous lies and conspiracy theories about the 2020 election, including false claims perpetuated by far-right extremists like Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson, threaten our democracy and have given rise to voter suppression efforts like Senate Bill 747. Today, Attorney General and candidate for governor Josh Stein released the following statement in response to Governor Cooper’s veto:
“The right to vote is the people’s most fundamental freedom in our democracy. It’s how we hold our government accountable. But far-right politicians in the legislature want to restrict that right by putting up barriers to the ballot box. I urge the General Assembly to uphold Governor Cooper’s veto. Our state leaders should be doing everything they can to make it easier for eligible voters to be heard, not harder.”
